Setting Up a Secondary Water Supply System

The following “Community Fact Sheet” was developed by a canal company in the Rocky Mountain region.  The canal company developed a secondary water supply system in the early 1990s.  They have generously shared this information with us.  You will observe that several issues are clarified.  These are questions commonly advanced by newcomers to this concept:

  1. How are these systems typically financed?
  2. Where does the water come from to operate them?
  3. What do they look like physically (no pictures provided at this time, but they are on the way)?
  4. How much do these systems cost?
  5. What are typical examples of user fees, connection fees, etc.?
  6. What does the secondary system provider (canal company) do?
  7. What local cooperation is needed?
  8. How do homeowners (residential parcel owners) hook up to these systems?

What are the advantages of secondary supply systems in general?
